This week on my Picks, I am going to be featuring my friend; Casey Young; keyboardist, composer, synth programmer, musician extraordinaire. You may not be familiar with his name, but I guarantee you've heard the iconic songs he's been a part of. Casey's credits are like a who's who; working with notable people such as The Pointer Sisters, Manhattan Transfer, Johnny Gill, Yes, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, David Sanborn, Quincy Jones, George Duke, Bill Champlin & Michael Sembello, just to name a few. Over his long career, Casey has designed synthesizers and programed electronic instruments for a string of albums and movies. My Pick today features Casey on two different basses - synth and acoustic, as well as programming.

From his 2004 release; "West Coast Groove," "Love will Take You" is a cool groove; written by Greg Mathieson Music & Bill Champlin and features the A List in musicians Abe Laboriel jr.. on drums, Michael Landau on guitar, Luis Conte on percussion and Greg on keyboards and sharing bass duties with Casey. Behind the scenes; more A List people; Tommy Vicari, Danny Vicari, Steve Sykes, Ulysses Noriega, Bernie Grundman and another friend of mine; Bill Smith

I can only imagine how fun this tune was to record.

Kickin' off this funky groove is Abe Jr. There's so much happening in the first 25 seconds before Bill Champlin starts in with vocals. It's that kind of "high steppin'" feel to it with a deep soulful groove before the chorus. Listen closely at the 2.35 min and you can hear Casey's playing on the acoustic. Casey told me that his fingers nearly bled from recording this. Well he did a fabulous job and what a great segway into Greg's solo on the keys.

"Love will Take You" has such a feel good, sexy vibe to it.
I love songs that can get me up, moving and singing along.

🎵"There's so much more to me,
so baby come with me,
I guarantee that my love will take you
just a little bit higher."🎵

Treat yourself and give this a listen.
