Blessid Union of Souls is on The Mission Field

I have to be honest here and say that I have never heard of these guys!!

But that is the beauty of doing what I do.

I get to hear and review all different types of music!
You and I are discovering this together! Cool, right?

From what I've read, Blessid Union of Souls has been around for over 20 years. They had a hit in 1990 with "I Believe." So I figured I'd go find it on the internet.

Once I heard the chorus, I was like, "OH YEAH!!! I remember that song!!"

Maybe the reason I didn't make the connection is because back then, I was busy being a wife & mommy!!

Anyways, I'm glad I didn't make the connection because their latest release, "The Mission Field" is, in my opinion very different from those early days.

Apparently, they've been equated with Hootie & the Blowfish. And sure, I can hear that.
But in listening to their album, I hear some Keith Green, Randy Stonehill, Daughtry, PFR, Los Lonely Boys, Newsboys, Salvador. And just some good ol' rock and roll and that "old time religion" gospel sound with POP!

I am all about what is going on with the instruments!! I love the "Keith Green" like intro on the first track, "Miracles," the cool latin guitar, percussion & Hammond B on "The Only Song" and the old school house piano on "The Mission Field" with orchestra. . . very pretty.

At this moment, "Back from the Dead" struck me VERY powerfully as a dear member of my family has been fighting some major struggles in their life. I've listened to this song several times while writing this blog and even emailed the lyrics hoping it would encourage them. This is a wonderful song of overcoming some of life's harshest trials.

I would say that overall, the album is pretty good.
Check it out and give me some feedback!
